UKMTO advises ships in Hormuz to use southern route

For security reasons, commercial vessels entering or leaving the Persian Gulf are advised to use the southern route closer to Oman's coast when transiting the Strait of Hormuz, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), which operates under the Royal Navy, Report informs via Interfax.

The UKMTO noted that although the threat level for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz has been downgraded to "moderate" following the announcement of a memorandum signed between Washington and Tehran, mines may still be present in the strait's international fairway.

Additionally, commercial vessels are advised to follow established procedures and coordinate their movements with the US Naval Forces Central Command (NAVCENT).
