IMO to evacuate over 11,000 seafarers from Strait of Hormuz

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is starting the implementation of a plan to evacuate more than 11,000 seafarers stranded in the Strait of Hormuz.

Report informs that this was stated in a statement by IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez published on the organization's website.

According to him, the large-scale evacuation operation will be carried out in close coordination with Iran, Oman, other coastal states in the region, the United States and representatives of the maritime industry.

He noted that the necessary security guarantees had already been received, making it possible to begin the operation.

The IMO secretary-general emphasized that a new stage in restoring maritime security would begin after the signing of an agreement between the United States and Iran. He said the document was a decisive step toward ending attacks on civilian shipping and stabilizing the situation in the region.
