Germany will allocate around €1.5 billion to modernize the port of Bremerhaven in the north of the country.
According to Report, citing Euractiv, the project is aimed at rapidly expanding the port's capacity to receive large volumes of military equipment and major troop contingents from the Bundeswehr and NATO allies.
The modernization is expected to be carried out between 2026 and 2031.
Last year, the Central Association of German Seaport Operators appealed to Defense Minister Boris Pistorius for defense budget funding to help prepare port infrastructure for a potential military conflict.
