Germany and France plan joint Lebanon peace initiative

Germany and France are preparing a joint initiative aimed at helping resolve the situation in Lebanon, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has said.

In an interview with Tagesspiegel, Wadephul said the two countries want to develop a common policy on Lebanon to improve the chances of achieving peace in the Middle East.

"We want to work together with France to develop a common policy toward Lebanon in order to increase the chances of establishing peace in the Middle East," he said.

The foreign minister did not provide further details about the proposed initiative.

In late June, representatives of Lebanon and Israel signed a US-brokered framework agreement in Washington aimed at settling the conflict.
