Andras Baka officially assumes office as Hungary's president

Andras Baka has officially assumed office as President of Hungary as of today, Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar said on X.

Magyar said Baka, who was elected Hungary's new president by parliament on August 11, has formally begun his duties.

"I wish the President success in his work, good health and as much humanity as possible," the prime minister wrote.

Baka worked at the European Court of Human Rights from 1991 to 2008. In 2009, he became President of Hungary's Supreme Court.

His tenure lasted two years, after which he was removed from office following a constitutional reform.
