15 infants killed in fire at Pakistan hospital

At least 15 newborns were killed in a fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital in Islamabad on Wednesday.

Report informs that, according to hospital officials, 16 newborns were in the maternity ward when the fire broke out, with only one infant rescued.

Rescue officials said the blaze was triggered by an explosion involving an air-conditioning compressor in the hospital's nursery.

The fire has been extinguished, while emergency crews continue cooling operations at the scene. Six fire engines and four ambulances were involved in the rescue operation.

An inquiry committee headed by a deputy commissioner has been established to investigate the incident.
