Hero of the Patriotic War: Sighit height of Zangilan was cleared of the enemy at night

"During the 44-day Patriotic War, we cleared the Sighit height of the Zangilan district from the enemy at night," Major of the State Border Service, Hero of the Patriotic War, Royal Guliyev, told Report.

According to him, after the restoration of the Azerbaijan-Iran state border during the second Karabakh war, one of the tasks of the border guards was to seize the strategic heights along the Azerbaijan-Armenia state border.

He said the units started moving for this purpose: "First, the heights in the direction of Vejnali and Aghband villages of Zangilan were liberated from the enemy. The Sighit height, located near the gold mining plant in the village of Vejnali, was strategically important. Armenian units were concentrated in that place and strengthened their positions. In spite of being a difficult task, it was very important to us. The Sighit height was important for taking control of Aghband, Vejnali, and the gold mining plant there, as well as certain posts in the territory of Armenia."

The unit commanded by Major Guliyev is assigned to clean this place from the enemy, and they start moving towards that height at night.

"Despite the difficult terrain, we managed to cope with the task. The combat skills of our units were good. We climbed to the height without difficulty, destroyed a group of Armenians there, and the glorious tricolor flag of Azerbaijan was planted on the height," the war veteran said.

According to the relevant orders of the President, Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, in addition to being awarded the title of Hero of the Patriotic War, the Major was awarded the medals "For the liberation of Jabrayil" and "For the liberation of Zangilan."

Lieutenant-Colonel Teyyub Bayramov of the State Border Service was one of the participants in the Sighit height operation. He noted that the Armenians tried to counter-attack again: "However, our border guards prevented the enemy's counter-attacks and destroyed them. Every inch of these lands has the blood of our military personnel. We also had martyrs and wounded in the battles. President, Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev awarded the title of Hero of the Patriotic War to the two border guards who participated in those operations. One of them is alive, and the other was martyred. I was awarded the "Karabakh" order."
