Kaliningrad customs officers find over 100 live lizards on Russian woman traveling to Poland

Kaliningrad customs officers discovered more than 100 live lizards on a Russian woman traveling by bus to Poland, Report informs, citing Russian media referencing the press service of the Kaliningrad Regional Customs.

The reptiles were found in the lining of the woman's jacket during a customs inspection.

The lizards, measuring between 10 and 15 centimeters in length, were placed in canvas pouches containing 3 to 5 specimens each.

However, the woman lacked accompanying documentation for the live cargo.

The woman confessed that she was transporting the animals to Germany for a fee.

Expert examination established that the lizards belong to the toad-headed agama species (Phrynocephalus interscapularis/secret toadhead agama), which is listed in the Red Data Book of Russia.

An administrative offense case has been initiated against the Russian citizen. It carries a fine of up to three times the value of the goods, with their potential confiscation.
