UN-Habitat: New urban recovery model could be applied in Africa

A new model for urban recovery could be applied in Africa, Tarek Osseiran, representative of UN-Habitat, stated during an event held within the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.

According to him, a methodological toolkit could be developed to show how the 'One UN' approach can be applied in Libya and other parts of the region.

"Based on experience, this approach works best when it reaches the community level. That is when it truly becomes real – not just theory or elegant project design. It becomes tangible when implemented with people. The combination of UNICEF, UN Women, and UN-Habitat allowed us to look at the problem from three different angles, each agency bringing its mandate and expertise. Together, this was delivered for the well-being of people in Tripoli, particularly in Bab al-Tabbaneh, one of the city's most critical neighborhoods, where the project continues," Osseiran said.

The representative added that UN-Habitat contributes expertise in governance, housing, public spaces, and essential services, while UNICEF focuses on children, education, and health, and UN Women addresses gender, livelihoods, and protection: "When all these elements come together, we can truly meet the multifaceted needs of communities."
