UN-Habitat: Housing-based approach strengthens foundations of urban resilience

A housing-based approach strengthens the foundations of urban resilience, Kazuko Ishigaki, Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific at UN-Habitat, said during an event held within the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.

According to her, lessons across the region – from modernizing informal settlements affected by climate change to housing-based recovery processes – show that housing policy delivers the greatest impact when integrated into broader, human-centered urban strategies.

"Platforms like the One UN event are crucial. They allow us to connect interregional experiences, combine global frameworks with local practices, and strengthen the partnerships these efforts depend on. UN-Habitat is committed to working fully with the UN Human Security Trust Fund, UN partners, Resident Coordinator-led country teams, member states, and cities across Asia and the Pacific. We are dedicated to advancing housing-based, people-centered solutions that contribute to safer, more inclusive, and more resilient urban futures," she said.
