UN agencies create joint platform for urban resilience

Rapid urbanization, climate change and environmental degradation are increasing pressure on global housing systems.

Report informs that Raf Tuts, Director of the Global Solutions Division at the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), said this at an event held as part of WUF13 in Baku.

According to him, housing is no longer only a matter of living space.

"The housing crisis is not simply a shortage of homes, but a consequence of systemic problems. The issue is directly linked to land resource management, urban planning, infrastructure and the well-being of communities," Tuts said.

He added that the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and UN-Habitat are launching a new joint initiative on resilient housing systems.

"This platform will help cities reduce risks and support long-term transformation," he said.
