Sakina Babayeva: Women feel impact of climate change most acutely

Women are the first and most severely affected by the consequences of climate change, Sakina Babayeva, Chairperson of the Board of the Association for the Development of Women"s Entrepreneurship in Azerbaijan, said at a conference on the contribution of women entrepreneurs to climate resilience.

According to Report, she explained that this is due to women's key roles in both managing households and protecting natural resources, as well as in utilizing alternative energy sources. "The participation of women entrepreneurs in combating climate change is highly significant from social, economic, and environmental perspectives," Babayeva noted.

Babaeva emphasized that since 2016, the process of uniting women entrepreneurs in Azerbaijan has expanded further: "The goal of this network is mutual support, experience sharing, and the development of individual businesses."

She also highlighted that the Association seeks to bring international expertise to Azerbaijan in addressing climate change: "Since 2018, specialists from Hungary have been invited to discuss issues such as the rehabilitation of saline soils and the application of drip irrigation methods. In addition, with support from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, several projects have been implemented to provide women with financial opportunities and training programs. These initiatives have strengthened the position of women in business."
