The main outcome of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku will be the development of urban planning policy, Nga Kor Ming, Minister of Housing and Local Government of Malaysia, current President of the Assembly of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), said at a press conference dedicated to the opening of the 13th session of WUF13 in Baku, Report informs.
The head of the assembly noted that urbanization processes continue to transform modern society at an unprecedented pace.
"Cities open up tremendous economic opportunities, stimulate innovation and cultural exchange. However, at the same time, they increasingly face severe housing crises, climate risks, social inequality, and growing pressure on infrastructure and public services. For millions of people, especially vulnerable populations, access to decent housing remains one of the most pressing problems. That is why the key theme of the Baku forum - 'Housing at the Centre: Safe and Sustainable Cities and Communities' - sounds particularly timely today," the Assembly President emphasized.
The minister added that throughout this week, discussions within WUF13 will focus on practical approaches to creating an inclusive urban environment.
"We expect an active exchange of experience in the field of housing policy and financing. And as a result, urban planning policies will be developed," Nga Kor Ming emphasized.
