Nandudu: Communities' key demand is shift from discussions to results in urban policy

The key problem in discussions on informal settlements remains the gap between political statements at international platforms and the practical implementation of solutions on the ground.

Report informs that Sarah Nandudu, Vice Chairperson of the National Slum Dwellers Federation of Uganda, said this at a panel session titled "Remove the Risk, Not the People: Transforming Informal Settlements as a Key to Housing Justice and Climate Resilience" held as part of WUF13 in Baku.

According to her, despite regular declarations about the need for inclusive development, many urban programs in reality do not lead to sustainable changes for residents of informal settlements.

"We constantly hear about inclusive development, but after forums, settlements often continue to be demolished. When will we finally start actually putting into practice what we talk about?" she said.

She emphasized that the key demand of communities remains a shift from discussions to concrete action and measurable results in urban policy.
