One of the main priorities in Azerbaijan's economic policy is the development of human capital attracted locally and from abroad, Azerbaijan's Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov said at an event titled "Cities at the center of connectivity: urban reconstruction and regional cooperation" held within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku.
According to Report, the minister noted that decisions are being made in the country regarding infrastructure and the legislative framework in this direction, including the creation of a free economic zone near the Alat International Sea Port, which is one of the key elements of this policy.
"We believe that the development of new cities and focusing on traditional advantages is important in terms of economic development. The service sector is one of the main parts of the urban economy, and this applies to Baku as well. The events calendar, entertainment, exhibitions, conferences, and everyday life experiences are factors that strengthen the economic potential of cities," it was noted.
Speaking about the liberated territories, the minister stated that the main principle in the development of these territories is sustainability: "In his speech, President Ilham Aliyev openly acknowledged that Azerbaijan had not only achievements but also certain mistakes in this process and emphasized that lessons were drawn from those mistakes. One of the key issues was the proper economic planning of the First State Program on the Great Return to the liberated territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan," it was stated in the speech.
According to him, the main goal is to ensure the return of people who have been away from their homeland for many years as soon as possible: "For this purpose, a separate economic approach has been determined for each city in the liberated territories. State policy is aimed at supporting the types of economic activities that have a higher probability of success in those cities."
