Direct flights between Baku and Ashgabat under consideration

Twice-weekly direct regular flights between Ashgabat and Baku may be launched.

According to Report, citing Turkmenistan's International Information Center (IIC), the matter was discussed during the meeting of the Azerbaijan–Turkmenistan Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation in Ashgabat.

During the session, the sides reviewed expanding cooperation in transport, tourism, trade, and investment. Special attention was given to developing the transit potential of both countries and strengthening transport links between Asia and Europe.

It was noted that Turkmenistan will continue offering preferential tariffs for Azerbaijani ships at the Turkmenbashi International Seaport.

In addition, the parties agreed to accelerate work on the telecommunication cable project along the Caspian seabed. They also focused on developing tourism ties and expanding business relations.

In particular, the possibility of opening twice-weekly direct flights between Ashgabat and Baku was considered. Within the framework of business cooperation, reciprocal business missions and familiarization trips to Azerbaijani cities, including Aghdam, Fuzuli, Shusha, Khankandi, and Nakhchivan, are planned.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the sides signed a package of joint documents.

The next session of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation will be held in Azerbaijan.
