Azerbaijan and Tajikistan could jointly build a green digital corridor from Asia to Europe, Tajikistan's Deputy Minister of Industry and New Technologies Aziz Nazar said during a panel discussion held as part of the Second Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2026) in Baku, Report informs.
According to him, Tajikistan currently generates 98% of its electricity from clean and renewable energy sources.
"Our hydropower potential exceeds 527 billion kilowatt-hours per year, which is the eighth-largest figure in the world and enough to cover the needs of all Central Asia three times. The Rogun Hydropower Plant in Tajikistan has a capacity of up to 3,780 megawatts and is adding capacity to turn Eurasia into a green battery in the era of artificial intelligence," he said.
He noted that only last year, the government, with the support of international financial institutions led by the World Bank, managed to mobilize more than $3 billion to support the construction of the hydropower plant.
Nazar said Tajikistan's rivers, water resources and cool mountain climate give it a structural advantage in sustainable computing.
"Tajikistan has brought the nexus between water and artificial intelligence to the global agenda in partnership with the UN. We know that freshwater will play a key role in the future transition to green technologies. Tajikistan's mountains are the source of 60% of water resources for all Central Asian countries. The country has unanimously supported the initiative for sustainable development in Central Asia through artificial intelligence, including the establishment of a regional artificial intelligence center in Dushanbe. We see a natural alliance with Azerbaijan. If the Middle Corridor can carry goods and energy, it can also carry data and computing power," he said.
