Azerbaijan and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) have signed a landmark agreement in New York, marking a new chapter in the bilateral partnership between the country and the UN agency, Report informs.
The agreement was signed by Anar Guliyev, the Chairman of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and National Coordinator for WUF13 Azerbaijan, alongside UN-Habitat Executive Director Anacláudia Rossbach.
For the first time, UN-Habitat will directly contribute to the planning of rural settlements in Azerbaijan's liberated territories. Under the joint project, spatial planning documents will be prepared for two specific locations: Guyjag village in the Jabrayil district and Mollabayramli village in the Kalbajar district.
This partnership is designed to support the Great Return Programme by helping to create more sustainable, inclusive, and people-centered living environments for Azerbaijani citizens returning to their native lands.
