Angolan representative: Informal settlements occupy up to 75% of Luanda's territory

Amid rapid urbanization in African cities, the growth of informal settlements is creating serious problems in the housing and infrastructure sectors.

Report informs that Vity Nsalambi, president of the Order of Architects of Angola, said this at an event held as part of WUF13 in Baku.

"In Luanda, the capital of Angola, informal settlements occupy about 70-75% of the city's territory. This situation puts serious pressure on infrastructure management, housing provision and the quality of life of urban residents," he said.

According to him, Africa is currently home to at least four or five of the world's 10 fastest-growing cities.
