World War II veteran passes away in Azerbaijan

A World War II veteran, 96-year-old Heydar Aliyev, a resident of Garazanjir village of Jalilabad, died today.
According to Report's Mugan bureau, Aliyev Heydar Mammadali oglu was born in 1925 in Sabirabad village of the region.
His military career began in February 1943, and he took part in the battles on the Ukrainian front. He was hospitalized for five months because of frostbite. He had his seven toes amputated.
Aliyev returned to his homeland in May 1944 at the age of 19. The deceased was also a professional car driver. He considered himself the oldest professional driver in Azerbaijan.
The veteran has seven sons, one daughter, 51 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
