Another mutated variant of the coronavirus has been discovered in the UK, said Health Minister Matt Hancock.
"It is a more contagious virus and has mutated more than the novel virus," the official told journalists.
According to the minister, experts have registered two cases of infection. He noted that both patients came from the Republic of South Africa.
London has imposed restrictions on travel to South Africa and a two-week compulsory quarantine.
Earlier, on December 14, Matt Hancock announced the discovery of a new strain of coronavirus in the east of England. According to him, this species is 70 percent more infectious.
Scientists have not yet found evidence that this type of disease is more lethal or aggravating.
