People who go to bed early and get up early are less likely to develop depression than everyone else, Report informs with reference to a research of American scientists published on the scientific portal JAMA Psychiatry.
In the experiment, the scientists used two genetic databases of more than 800,000 adults. Biologists also collected data on their sleep patterns. They found that early risers were 23% less likely to develop major depression.
Dr. Till Roenneberg, a chronobiology expert who was not involved in the study, told The New York Times that night owls, in turn, often have to disrupt their sleep patterns due to getting up early to go to work, which can contribute to depression.
