Chinese doctors perform world's first bilateral thigh-level leg replantation

Chinese doctors have successfully performed what they say is the world's first replantation of both lower limbs at the thigh level after they were amputated in an industrial accident.

According to Report, citing the Yangtze Evening News, a 51-year-old man surnamed Jiang lost both legs in an accident at a factory in late 2024.

The operation was carried out at Ruixua Orthopedic Hospital in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, and lasted about eight hours. Doctors performed bone grafting and implanted fixation plates in the patient's femur bones.

More than a year after the surgery, Jiang was able to first lift his legs and later stand and walk with the help of a walker. His rehabilitation is ongoing.
