Venezuelan envoy: Housing policy must be based on social justice

Housing policy should be based on the principles of dignified living, social justice, and respect for the sovereignty of states, Venezuela's Ambassador to Azerbaijan Christopher Alberto Martinez Berroteran said at the ministerial roundtable within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku.

According to Report, the ambassador noted that the Sustainable Development Goals remain a target for building more just and inclusive societies.

According to him, sustainable development requires a balance of economic, social, and environmental priorities, including combating poverty and ensuring energy and food security.

"The housing issue should be based on the ideals of dignified living, self-determination, dignity, and sovereignty," he stated.

Berroteran emphasized the importance of assessing countries' real progress in urban environment transformation ten years after the adoption of the New Urban Agenda.

He noted that since 2022, the Gran Misión Vivienda Venezuela program has been implemented in Venezuela, aimed at developing housing construction and citizens' participation in governance.

"By April 2026, more than 5.25 million homes have been built, and an additional 3 million housing units are planned to be constructed by 2030," the diplomat noted.

According to him, attention is being paid not only to housing construction but also to the formation of an urban environment with infrastructure and public spaces.
