UN: Azerbaijan's mine action experience can benefit other nations

Azerbaijan's experience in mine action can be valuable to other countries, FAO Representative in Azerbaijan Muhammad Nasar Hayat said, as quoted by Report.

Speaking on behalf of the UN Resident Coordinator in the country at the 4th International Mine Action Conference on the theme "Humanitarian Demining for Urban Recovery: Setting Standards of Excellence for Safe Settlements," Nasar Hayat noted that the experience accumulated by Azerbaijan, its national investments, the deployment of innovations, and the practical knowledge gained can provide substantial support to nations suffering from landmines and explosive remnants of war, including Ukraine, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, and Myanmar.

He emphasized that the UN possesses rich international experience in mine action and stands ready to support Azerbaijan by sharing this expertise.

"The UN has accumulated significant international experience that it is ready to share with Azerbaijan. This experience is built on decades of work in mine action, explosive ordnance risk education, survivor assistance, and the strengthening of national institutions," he said.

Hayat stressed that knowledge exchange should drive further progress in Azerbaijan while simultaneously facilitating the dissemination of its experience across the international community.

"Global experience consistently demonstrates that effective mine action relies on robust partnerships among local, national, and international stakeholders," the UN representative noted.

He added that mine action serves as a pathway to safety, recovery, and the renewal of hope for affected communities: "It restores confidence, creates conditions for urban rehabilitation, builds trust, and fosters sustainable development and lasting peace."

Hayat also emphasized that investments in mine action constitute investments in peace.
