Russian expert: Karabakh topic will be touched upon at Russia-Iran-Turkiye trilateral summit

The topic of Karabakh will undoubtedly be touched upon at the trilateral summit of the leaders of Russia, Iran and Turkiye, which is taking place today in Tehran, Russian political scientist Yevgeny Mikhailov told Report.

"In my opinion, the complete de-escalation of tension between Armenia and Azerbaijan will undoubtedly be discussed between the leaders of Russia, Iran and Turkiye. I believe that joint initiatives will be put forward to diplomatically compel Yerevan to fully implement the agreements reached in November 2020 on the demarcation and delimitation of borders and on unblocking transport corridors, the most important of which is Zangazur. The solution of this problem will not only increase the trade turnover between the countries, but also finally bring peace to the region and the well-being of Armenia itself," Mikhailov said.

"In fact, a situation has now developed in which only neighboring countries should resolve issues of their economic and political independence. And no one can stop it. Moreover, Yerevan's attempts to revive the activities of the OSCE Minsk Group again run into the complete rejection by Russia, Iran and Turkiye," Evgeny Mikhailov concluded.

Commenting on Vladimir Putin's visit to Iran, Mikhailov noted that he considers it "extremely topical and timely in the current situation." "I would like to note that the President of Russia does not go to his enemies for negotiations and, accordingly, both the President of Iran and the President of Turkiye are good partners for him," he said.

According to him, Iran, which is constantly under US sanctions, has something to share on this issue with the Russian president.
