The model of sustainable and empowering cultural revitalization in the post-conflict period forms the basis of all ICESCO programs related to cultural heritage and restoration, Anar Karimov, Head of the Partnerships and International Cooperation Sector of ICESCO, said at the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.
According to him, placing culture at the center of the restoration process is a key condition for the sustainable development and revival of post-conflict territories: "This model and initiative deserve special support. We highly value the Ministry of Culture presenting this initiative at such an important international forum."
Karimov noted that ICESCO considers the protection of cultural heritage one of the main directions of its international agenda: "For this purpose, the Islamic World Heritage Center has been established, and the organization is working on registering examples of cultural heritage of the Islamic world."
He emphasized that ICESCO's activities do not duplicate UNESCO's work but complement it as a mechanism.
