Wolfgang Manig: I was very lucky to be appointed German Ambassador to Azerbaijan

"I first got acquainted with Azerbaijan in 1994, when I visited Baku, " German Ambassador to Azerbaijan Wolfgang Manig said at a press conference.

He noted that he first visited Baku in 1994, and that since then the city has changed beyond recognition.

"In 1992-94, I was an employee in the Department of the German Foreign Ministry, which was engaged in monitoring crisis zones in the former USSR. And then he visited Azerbaijan for the first time. Baku, of course, has changed beyond recognition. When I learned that there was a vacancy for the German Ambassador to Azerbaijan, I was very pleased and immediately applied for it. And I was lucky that among many people they chose my candidacy," he said.

On July 23, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received the credentials of the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Azerbaijan Wolfgang Manig.
