Horlemann: Germany supports further deepening of EU relations with Azerbaijan

Germany supports the further deepening of relations between the EU and Azerbaijan, whose role in Europe continues to grow, German Ambassador to Azerbaijan Ralf Horlemann said at a farewell meeting with Azerbaijani journalists, Report informs.

"Germany, as the largest economy in the European Union and one of the most active supporters of European integration, has always supported the development of strong relations between the EU and Azerbaijan," he said.

According to him, relations between Baku and Brussels have demonstrated steady positive dynamics over the past 12 months.

The ambassador recalled that European Council President Antonio Costa and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas visited Azerbaijan in March.

Furthermore, at the end of last year, the parties signed a financial agreement and are currently continuing negotiations on a new cooperation agreement.

"All of this demonstrates the positive dynamics in relations between the EU and Azerbaijan and reflects the EU's growing interest in the region. Azerbaijan's importance to Europe has grown significantly in recent years due to its role in ensuring energy security and as a key transport hub between Asia and Europe," he said.

The ambassador noted that the EU is actively involved in infrastructure projects in the region, including the modernization of the railway line in Nakhchivan, which is seen as an important element of the Middle Corridor.

"It is very important for Germany that this positive momentum is maintained and that relations between the European Union and Azerbaijan continue to expand and deepen, as this region plays an increasingly significant role for Europe," the ambassador added.
