Guatemalan representative at WUF13: Improving urban living conditions impossible without women

Women should be given greater opportunities to participate in decision-making, access housing, and manage urban development, a representative from Guatemala said during the joint closing dialogue of the Assemblies held within the framework of WUF13 in Baku.

Report quotes her as saying during the Women's Assembly on May 17, participants discussed a wide range of issues related to the role of women in transforming cities and communities. The work was carried out in thematic groups focusing on preventing the exclusion of women from development processes, financing affordable housing, climate resilience, support for women and girls, housing issues in crisis and post-conflict conditions, as well as gender equality in informal settlements.

She noted that particular attention was paid to empowering women, allocating resources to strengthen women"s leadership, and creating effective policy mechanisms.

"Without support for women's leadership, it is impossible to improve living conditions and introduce new approaches," she said.
