Georgian analyst: Germany-Azerbaijan ties elevate South Caucasus

The signing of the Joint Declaration on the strategic agenda of bilateral partnership between Germany and Azerbaijan is crucial not only for relations between the two countries but also for the South Caucasus region as a whole, according to Georgian analyst Valeri Chechelashvili, head of the Georgian Strategic Studies Center.

Speaking to Report's Georgian bureau, Chechelashvili noted that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev continues a consistent policy of strengthening ties with international partners, including the European Union, and the declaration with Germany is one of the important outcomes of this approach.

"I believe the joint declaration on the strategic partnership agenda between Azerbaijan and Germany is an extremely important document," the expert emphasized.

Chechelashvili underlined that Germany, as one of the world's strongest economies, brings considerable weight to this cooperation. He added that the partnership will not only advance Germany-Azerbaijan relations but also enhance Germany's role and presence in the South Caucasus.

"The greater the number and role of states like Germany in the South Caucasus, the more new opportunities and perspectives will open for the region. That is why I consider this visit not only crucial for Azerbaijan-Germany relations but also for the South Caucasus as a whole," he concluded.
