Baku meeting to strengthen anti-corruption cooperation, official says

The meeting held in Baku will strengthen anti-corruption cooperation, said Tugay Rahimli, assistant to Azerbaijan's prosecutor general for special assignments.

Report informs that he made the remarks to journalists.

"The third high-level meeting of heads of anti-corruption agencies from Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states, held in Baku, will strengthen cooperation in combating corruption," Rahimli said.

He noted that more than 250 participants attended the meeting, representing 46 member and observer states and eight international organizations.

"The main objectives of today's meeting are to strengthen international anti-corruption cooperation, facilitate information sharing and exchanges of experience in preventive measures, and ensure the recovery of assets obtained through corruption," he said.

Rahimli highlighted the unanimous election of Azerbaijan's Prosecutor General's Office to the relevant bureau for a two-year term as one of the event's key outcomes.

"This will enable us to further strengthen cooperation with our partners and anti-corruption agencies and achieve the complete elimination of corruption in our society," he said.

Rahimli also highlighted the signing of the Makkah Convention.

"This convention establishes a legal framework for international cooperation among anti-corruption law enforcement agencies, facilitating both information sharing and exchanges of best practices. It enables joint investigative activities, mutual legal assistance, and the identification, confiscation and recovery of assets obtained through corruption," he said.
