Baku Declaration adopted at 20th Session of PUIC Conference

The 20th session of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (PUIC) member states has adopted the Baku Declaration.

According to Report, the text was read by Azerbaijani MP Jeyhun Mammadov.

Participants reaffirmed their commitment to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and international law. The declaration emphasized PUIC's role in strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation, promoting common values, fostering dialogue and mutual understanding, and advancing joint action in addressing global challenges.

The document highlighted the central importance of the Palestinian issue for the Islamic world, expressing support for the rights of the Palestinian people. It also voiced deep concern over rising Islamophobia, condemning all acts of violence, hate speech, and extremism based on religion or belief.

The declaration called on the international community to take effective measures at national and global levels against extremism, hate speech, religious defamation, negative stereotyping, and discrimination based on faith or ethnicity.

Support was also expressed for the efforts of Turkish Cypriot Muslims to secure their inalienable rights. The declaration stressed the need for a fair, sustainable, and mutually acceptable settlement of the Cyprus issue through negotiations, and underlined the importance of ending unjust isolation and strengthening ties with the Turkish Cypriot community.
