Azerbaijan successfully passes assessment of its first biennial transparency report

Azerbaijan has successfully completed the assessment of its first biennial transparency report submitted under the Paris Climate Agreement, Report informs.

Representatives of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry delegation announced the move during the 64th session of the Subsidiary Bodies of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) – SB64.

During the first week of the session, a series of events and meetings were held to discuss the implementation of the COP29 Presidency initiatives, as well as the mandates granted to Azerbaijan under COP29 and COP30.

In particular, a special session was organized within the COP29 Baku Global Climate Transparency Platform initiative, jointly with the UNFCCC Secretariat and the COP30 and COP31 Presidencies. Participants discussed the experience of preparing the first cycle of biennial transparency reports, existing challenges, and possible mechanisms to support developing countries in preparing the second cycle of reports. It was decided to hold the next session of the platform in September of this year in Baku as part of the UNFCCC Climate Week.

The first session of the Belém Mission to 1.5 initiative was held under the mandate of the Troika of the Presidencies of COP29, COP30, and COP31. During the discussions, the positions of both parties and other stakeholders were heard. It was noted that the proposals expressed will contribute to the development of subsequent steps.

The Azerbaijani delegation participated in the high-level segment of the multilateral and incentive-based review process under the Enhanced Transparency Framework of the Paris Agreement, as well as in the technical dialogue on Azerbaijan's biennial transparency report.

Thus, the review process for Azerbaijan's first biennial transparency report was successfully completed.
