Yalchin Rafiyev: Azerbaijan creates joint climate working groups with Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Chad

Azerbaijan has established joint working groups with Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, and Chad as part of COP29, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and COP29 Lead Negotiator Yalchin Rafiyev said at a panel session during Baku Climate Action Week 2026 (BCAW 2026), Report informs.

According to him, the implementation of pilot projects is coordinated through joint working groups that ensure the strengthening of national interests and ownership, stakeholder coordination, and project execution monitoring.

"We have already established joint working groups with Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, and Chad. Today, I am particularly proud to highlight the leadership and commitment of the government of Guinea-Bissau. We have finalized all necessary documentation for the pilot project in Guinea-Bissau, and in the near future, the project will be submitted to the Green Climate Fund," Rafiyev said.

He emphasized that climate change is no longer merely an environmental issue, having evolved into a critical threat to global peace and security.

Rafiyev added that the COP29 Presidency initiated the Baku Call on Climate Action for Peace, Relief and Recovery and established the Baku Climate and Peace Action Hub as a practical platform to foster cooperation at the nexus of climate, peace, and development.
