Aghakarim Samadzada: Practical measures for climate resilience are planned in Baku, Sumgait

One of Azerbaijan's top priorities is developing a multi-hazard early warning system, First Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Aghakarim Samadzada said at a session at WUF13 in Baku, Report informs.

He noted that people living in informal settlements are most vulnerable to climate change and are more likely to suffer from heatwaves, floods, water shortages, and other risks.

"Therefore, climate adaptation measures must be included in the process of improving such settlements. People should live in safer areas, have stable access to basic services and better infrastructure," Samadzada said.

He also noted that practical measures for climate resilience are planned in Baku and Sumgait.

"These measures could include creating green areas, planting trees, creating shaded public spaces, energy-efficient buildings, better insulation, and water conservation systems," he said.
