Head coach of Azerbaijan national football team Fernando Santos resigns

The contract with Fernando Santos, head coach of the Azerbaijan national football team, has been terminated by mutual agreement.

According to Report, AFFA Secretary General Jahangir Farajullayev announced the decision at a press conference.

For the 2026 World Cup qualifying match against Ukraine on September 9 in Baku, the team will be led by U-21 national team head coach Aykhan Abbasov.

Under Santos"s leadership, the Azerbaijan national team played 11 matches, recording 9 losses and 2 draws.
