Courtois now second in World Cup goalkeeper lists

The FIFA World Cup 2026 quarterfinal between Spain and Belgium was a milestone for Thibaut Courtois.

According to Report, the 34‑year‑old Belgian goalkeeper made his 21st World Cup appearance in that match, which ended 2–1 in favor of Spain.

With this, Courtois overtook French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris (20 matches) to move into second place among goalkeepers with the most World Cup games. Germany's Manuel Neuer remains the leader with 23 appearances.

Courtois was substituted in the 71st minute, when the score was 1–1, due to injury.
