US may mint $1 trillion platinum coin

In the United States, $1 trillion worth of platinum coins may be minted and transferred to the Federal Reserve System immediately, Report informs via foreign media.
The issue was raised in the context of discussions in the US Congress on the debt limit.
"I'm opposed to it, and I don't believe we should consider it seriously," Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen told CNBC. "It's really a gimmick, and what's necessary is for Congress to show the world can count on America paying its debts."
