More than 80% of Azerbaijan's critical mineral resource reserves are located in territories liberated from occupation, which remained inaccessible for nearly 30 years, Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov said during a dialogue session at the 51st Annual Meetings of the Islamic Development Bank Group.
Report quotes Jabbarov as saying mining is emerging as one of the leading sectors of economic activity in these regions.
He noted that the reconstruction of the liberated territories is not only an economic and social undertaking but also a project of national significance linked to the return of internally displaced persons.
Jabbarov added that the regions have been designated as green development zones, with infrastructure projects being implemented using modern technologies. He said the economic potential of the territories also includes agriculture, tourism, industry, logistics, and transportation.
The minister further highlighted the strategic importance of the Zangazur Corridor for Azerbaijan's economy and for improving cargo transportation efficiency along the Middle Corridor.
He also noted that the Aghdam Industrial Park has become one of the country's leading industrial zones in terms of resident companies and is attracting growing interest from both local and foreign investors.
