Europe is importing significantly more LNG, while traditional pipeline suppliers -- such as Norway, Algeria and Azerbaijan -- are doing their best to maintain high levels of exports, Report informs referring to S&P Global
Two years since Russia’s war in Ukraine -- helping to trigger arguably the most serious gas crisis in Europe’s history -- market dynamics are much changed, with supply sources and routes majorly altered.
In 2023, Azerbaijan exported 11.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Europe, which is 0.4 billion cubic meters or 3.5% more than in 2022. In total, gas exports from Azerbaijan last year amounted to 23.8 billion cubic meters, which is 5.3% more than in 2022.
During this period, Azerbaijan sold 9.5 billion cubic meters of gas to Türkiye, and 2.5 billion cubic meters to Georgia. Gas exports to Türkiye increased by 1.1 billion cubic meters or 13.1%, and to Georgia remained unchanged. During the reporting period, about 5.6 billion cubic meters of gas were transported to Türkiye via the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP), which is equal to the volume of supplies from the previous year.
