Rafiyev: Azerbaijan-EU cooperation in green energy holds special importance

Within the framework of Azerbaijan-EU cooperation, the sphere of renewable energy is acquiring particular significance, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Yalchin Rafiyev said at an event marking Europe Day, Report informs.

According to him, Azerbaijani natural gas is currently supplied to 16 countries, including 10 EU member states. In 2025, approximately 13 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas were exported to Europe. The commencement of supplies to Austria and Germany this year, he noted, once again confirms Azerbaijan's role as an important partner in the diversification of Europe's energy supplies.

"At the same time, our cooperation is not limited solely to natural gas exports. In the long term, cooperation in the sphere of renewable energy and green technologies is acquiring particular significance. The development of energy corridors from the Caspian region through the Black Sea to Europe opens up new prospects," he stated.

He also noted that transport links remain an important area, adding that Azerbaijan's geostrategic position has turned transport corridors into an effective instrument of cooperation and development.

In this context, he highlighted the Middle Corridor, the Baku Port, the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway, as well as future projects, including routes connected to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. According to him, these initiatives will strengthen the region's role as a connecting link between Europe, the South Caucasus, Central Asia, and other destinations.

Rafiyev also emphasized the importance of initiatives aimed at sustainable development, regional stability, and connectivity.

In conclusion, he underscored the significance of completing negotiations on new partnership priorities and a new bilateral agreement between Azerbaijan and the European Union, which should form a modern, balanced, and future-oriented foundation for cooperation.
