Kazakhstan attracts $87.7B into hydrocarbons since 2020

Kazakhstan attracted 41.3 trillion tenge (about $87.7 billion) in investments into its hydrocarbon sector between 2020 and 2025, Deputy Energy Minister Yerlan Akbarov said at a press conference.
Akbarov said the country plans to attract an additional 350 billion tenge (around $743 million) in investments in 2026. The funds will be directed toward geological exploration, modernization of production infrastructure and the introduction of new technologies.
According to the deputy minister, Kazakhstan's proven oil reserves stood at 4.2 billion tonnes as of January 1, 2025.
He added that the country's recoverable free natural gas reserves are estimated at 1.7 trillion cubic meters, while associated gas reserves total about 2 trillion cubic meters.
Around 65,000 people are currently employed in Kazakhstan's hydrocarbon exploration and production sector, Akbarov said.
He also noted that Kazakhstan's total reserves of conventional fuel are estimated at 76 billion tonnes.
The country currently has 317 active subsoil use contracts in the hydrocarbon sector.
