bp continues exploration to assess gas reserves at the Shah Deniz and Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli fields in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, company's Regional President Gary Jones told reporters at a press briefing.

Report informs that, according to him, the company has started drilling at the Shah Deniz field to explore deep-seated gas deposits here.

He said they do not expect large reserves in the deep layers of Shah Deniz, they will be less than those in development. However, due to the infrastructure - pipelines and terminal facilities, the production of this gas will be profitable.

Exploration drilling is also being carried out from the Chirag platform to assess the reserves of the so-called "deep gas". According to Jones, this is the same gas that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has repeatedly spoken about as one of the sources for increasing fuel supplies from Azerbaijan to Europe.
