Azerbaijan increases polyethylene exports by more than 50% in January

In January 2022, according to customs declarations, Azerbaijan exported 15,427 tons of polyethylene in primary forms worth $21.950 million, up 50.7% and 2.24-fold, respectively, from the previous year, Report informs, citing the State Customs Committee.

In January 2022, the share of polyethylene in exports of the non-oil sector was 9.45%. During the reporting period, the polyethylene in primary forms accounted for 0.71% of the country's total exports.

Azerbaijan produces polyethylene and polypropylene at SOCAR’s polymer plant. The SOCAR Polymer project includes a polypropylene plant with an annual production capacity of 184,000 tons and a high-density polyethylene plant with an annual production of 120,000 tons. The polypropylene plant was inaugurated on July 18, 2018, with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Italian President Sergio Mattarella in their presence. The export of polypropylene began on October 5, 2018.
