Alparslan Bayraktar: Türkiye plans to sign 'electric TANAP' project at COP31

Türkiye plans to sign the project it calls the "electric version of TANAP" during the COP31 summit, Türkiye's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar said at the 5th Azerbaijan-Türkiye Energy Forum held in Baku, Report informs.

According to the minister, the Green Electricity Transmission and Trade Project, which brings Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Bulgaria together on a single platform, is an important breakthrough and a new initiative for them today.

Bayraktar emphasized that he calls the project the "electric TANAP".

"That project presents a highly significant vision at the regional level," he said.

The minister noted that they do not view this important project solely as an infrastructure initiative, but consider it a strategic step based on mutual benefit and forming the foundation of long-term regional energy partnership.

Bayraktar expressed his wish to maintain this momentum and move the project to the next stage as soon as possible. He said that as part of COP31 being held in Antalya, an important signing ceremony for the project is planned, likely with the process being completed through an intergovernmental agreement to be signed by heads of state or ministers.

The minister said he believes that the COP31 agenda, particularly its focus on electrification, will be an extremely important project that the two countries will present to the world.
