Mugabil Bayramov: Armenian mining and processing plants pose serious threat to transboundary rivers

The activities of four large mining and processing combines in Armenia located near the state border with Azerbaijan pose a serious environmental threat to transboundary water resources, Mugabil Bayramov, a member of the Environmental Protection First Coalition, said during a briefing dedicated to the organization's appeal to the COP17 presidency and participants of the Leaders' Summit under the slogan "Leaders for Nature," which is planned to be held in Armenia.

According to Report, he said that a number of large industrial and mining enterprises in Armenia are located in the basins of the Kur and Araz rivers, in close proximity to the Azerbaijani border.

Bayramov noted that one of the most striking examples of negative environmental impact is the situation on the Okhchuchay River.

"Preventing the pollution of transboundary rivers and protecting water resources should become an important topic of discussion within the framework of regional cooperation," he emphasized.
