Altay Mustafayev becomes first Azerbaijani to earn SJD degree in US

Altay Mustafayev, a member of the Azerbaijani Bar Association, has earned a Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD) degree in the United States, according to the Bar Association.

Mustafayev successfully defended his doctoral dissertation at Indiana University's Maurer School of Law, one of the well-known higher education institutions in the United States.

His dissertation titled "Judicial Discretion in Common Law and Civil Law: A Comparative Legal and Institutional Analysis through Elinor Ostrom's IAD Framework" examines the formation and application of judicial discretion in common law and civil law systems from comparative legal and institutional perspectives.

The research analyzes the legal and institutional foundations of judicial discretion using the Institutional Analysis and Development framework developed by Nobel Prize-winning economist Elinor Ostrom.

With this achievement, Mustafayev became the first Azerbaijani to earn an SJD degree in the United States.

An SJD is considered one of the highest academic degrees in the field of law.

Mustafayev is also a member of the New York State Bar Association.
