The entry of US-Azerbaijan relations into a new stage is not only a development of bilateral ties, but also an important indicator of the reshaping of the geopolitical map of the South Caucasus, MP Elchin Mirzabayli told Report.
According to him, developments in the region over the past five years have significantly altered the balance of power, and a new regional security architecture is being formed based on the realities created by Azerbaijan.
The MP noted that the 2020 Patriotic War changed the status quo, Azerbaijan fully restored its territorial integrity and sovereignty in 2023, while the initialing of the peace agreement in 2025 established the political and legal framework for the post-conflict period.
Mirzabayli stressed that Washington's recognition of this reality indicates qualitative changes in US policy in the South Caucasus.
"Now the United States considers Azerbaijan not only an energy partner, but also an important participant in Eurasia's transport and communications system, a reliable partner contributing to Europe's energy security, and one of the key actors in regional stability," he said.
According to the MP, Azerbaijan's participation as a reliable partner in international projects, fulfillment of its commitments and consistent foreign policy have played an important role in elevating relations with the United States to a new level.
He said that preparations for the Strategic Partnership Charter, the suspension of Section 907, as well as agreements reached on economic and transport projects demonstrate that Washington is approaching the region through the prism of cooperation.
Mirzabayli also emphasized the geopolitical significance of the Zangazur Corridor.
"This project will accelerate the economic integration of the Turkic world, expand the potential of the Middle Corridor and become an important transport link between Europe and Central Asia," he said.
According to him, the policy pursued by President Ilham Aliyev is based on a long-term strategic vision and is aimed at ensuring Azerbaijan's regional leadership.
Mirzabayli stressed that Azerbaijan today is not only the strongest state in the South Caucasus, but also an actor shaping the region's political agenda and recognized internationally as a reliable partner.
