The year since the Washington agreement has demonstrated that Azerbaijan was absolutely right and that the steps it took were aimed at achieving lasting peace and ensuring security in the region, political analyst Fikrat Sadikhov told Report.
He noted that after liberating its territories from occupation, Azerbaijan was interested in restoring peace in the region.
"After restoring our sovereignty, we took the first steps toward peace by implementing a number of projects. Armenia also realized that it was facing a major player in the region. We put it before a forced choice. The document initialed in Washington a year ago shows that the steps we took, both militarily and diplomatically, fully corresponded to reality and truth," he said.
The political analyst emphasized that US President Donald Trump's role in the Washington agreement was highly significant.
"Nethertheless, the diplomacy we conducted and the very important steps taken by the head of state led to the initialing of the peace document. In other words, we were able to prove to them that we stand for fundamental peace and security. Moreover, if Armenia does not want to remain in a dead end, it must choose the right path. Over the past year, we have seen that they have also taken certain steps. But all the issues that Armenia needs to resolve must be resolved," he said.
